The car in question is a 1978 Datsun 260z. Fitted with (reportedly) one of the most accurate Ferrari 250 GTO kits ever produced. The kit was so good Ferrari walked in one day, bought everything (tools, Moulds) and then smashed it all, in front of everyone. It was decided at that point to convert the car back to a 250 GTO using replica Scaglietti bodywork by Mario Allegretti – yes, the same master panel beater who had made the 1965 rebody. Last edited: Sep 10, 2017. 250 GTO 4399 spun and crashed at Goodwood Revival qualifying by Stippler/Newall for the TT with Andy Newall driving. It was fastest qualifier at the point it crashed but was pipped by a few tenths on the last lap by an E Type.
So the backstory on this car is that it is the body replica of a Ferrari 250 GTO but has the original engine. After seeing the recent sale of the $70 million GTO I decided I would post this. I saw this at one of the Ferrari of Washington’s shows if you’re interested.
